SUMMARY:"Brilliant Exiles: American Women in Paris\, 1900-1939" @ Speed Art Museum (multiple dates\, March 29-June 22)
DESCRIPTION:MARCH 29 – JUNE 22\, 2025\n3rd Floor\, North Building\nVenue Curator: Erika Holmquist-Wall \nBuy Tickets \nDuring the early twentieth century\, Paris was the destination of choice for talented and independent American women determined to move beyond the limitations that restricted them at home. Drawn by a strong desire for independence\, they crossed the Atlantic to pursue personal and professional ambitions in a city viewed as the epicenter of modernity. Brilliant Exiles: American Women in Paris\, 1900-1939 recaptures the experiences of these unorthodox women who found in Paris the freedom to blaze new trails in a variety of fields\, including art\, literature\, design\, publishing\, music\, fashion\, journalism\, theater\, and dance. As foreigners in a cosmopolitan city\, they escaped the societal expectations and constraints of both the United States and France. Many used their newfound liberty as an opportunity for self-reinvention and discovery. \nPortraiture provides a revealing lens through which to view the cultural shifts American women helped instigate in Paris. Their defiance of social\, professional\, and gender norms rendered conventional modes of female portraiture obsolete. Brilliant Exiles highlights the dynamic role of portraiture in articulating the refashioned sense of self and the new conceptions of modern female identity that resulted from the interventions of American women in Parisian life. \nDespite significant differences in their circumstances\, the women in this exhibition shared many experiences and points of contact. Featuring over 85 artworks across various media and accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue\, Brilliant Exiles visually graphs the social and creative networks and points of intersection that linked these various groups\, with an emphasis on sites of sociability and production that were overseen by women. Through vivid portraits and compelling biographies\, the catalogue and exhibition recover a history that will be unfamiliar to many museum visitors\, revealing the impact that American Women had on modernist Paris\, as well as the city’s transformative effect on these brilliant exiles from the United States. \n  \nThis exhibition has been organized by the National Portrait Gallery and received Federal support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative Pool\, administered by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum. \n  \n  \n***Description from website

SUMMARY:6th Annual Kitten Shower for KY Humane Society (multiple events)
DESCRIPTION:Event Name:\n6th Annual Kitten Shower for the Kentucky Humane Society \nEvent Date:\n2025-04-24\n2025-04-25\n2025-04-26\n2025-04-27 \nWebsite / Ticket Link:\nBook Now \n \nLocation:\nPurrfect Day Cat Cafe\, 1741 Bardstown Rd. Louisville\, KY 40205 \nEvent Host:\nPurrfect Day Cat Cafe \nEvent Description / Other Info:\nSpring is in the air! Along with the warmer weather comes what many animal welfare organizations refer to as “kitten season.” \nKitten season begins in early spring and ends in fall\, and it is when the greatest number of kittens are born. \nDuring this time period\, the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) becomes flooded with litters of young kittens needing life-saving care. \nWhile kittens are adorable and fun\, the sheer number of kittens turned in overwhelms the shelter and can leave KHS very short on supplies and foster caregivers. \nTo help get kitten season started out on the right paw and prepare for the little arrivals\, Purrfect Day Cat Café Louisville is throwing KHS our Annual Kitten Shower! \nThe kitten shower will be held April 24-27 at Purrfect Day Cat Café. During the shower\, the public is encouraged to bring much-needed kitten supplies to the café to help KHS care for their little ones.

SUMMARY:Pandora Productions presents "Avenue Q"
DESCRIPTION:Avenue Q\nAges 18+ \nA puppet-filled comedy follows a group of twenty-somethings seeking their purpose in big-city life. Presented by Pandora Productions. \n\nSponsored by Best Blind and Shade \nMusic and Lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx\, Book by Jeff Whitty\, Based on an Original Concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx \nWinner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical\, Best Score and Best Book\, Avenue Q is part flesh\, part felt and packed with heart. \nSummary:\nThe laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton\, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that\, although the residents seem nice\, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together\, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs\, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life. \nFilled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score\, not to mention puppets\, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues\, it is similar to a beloved children’s show; a place where puppets are friends\, Monsters are good\, and life lessons are learned. \nFeaturing: Shelby Brown\, Louisa Frey\, Regina Frost\, David Galloway\, Kate Holland Ballowe\, Zac Campbell-Hoogendyk\, Hannah Lechleiter\, Elliot Meadows\, Kristina Nguyen\, Derrick Palmer\, Jeff Pecans\, Tony Smith\, Morgan Spaulding\, Sean Turley \nDirected by Gil Reyes \nMusic Direction by Hannegan Roseberry \n  \n***Description from eventbrite
