As the Prime Minister of Japan pleads with the public to remain calm\, a horrific creature of tremendous size makes landfall in the city\, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Then it evolves. The government assembles a motley task force to combat the monster when an envoy from the US Department of State delivers a folder of classified documents. On its cover is written: “GODZILLA.” \nFrom visionary directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi\, Shin Godzilla offers a thrilling origin story to one of cinema’s greatest creations. Propelled by astounding visual effects and rapid-fire dialogue\, Shin Godzilla is equal parts pulse-pounding action film and venomous political satire\, worthy of the franchise’s towering history. 2016\, Japan\, 4K DCP\, in Japanese with English subtitles\, 120 minutes. SUMMARY:"Ikiru" @ Speed Cinema (multiple screenings)
DESCRIPTION:“I think this is one of the few movies that might actually be able to inspire someone to lead their life a little differently.”—Roger Ebert \nOne of the greatest achievements by Akira Kurosawa\, Ikiru shows the director at his most compassionate—affirming life through an exploration of death. Takashi Shimura beautifully portrays Kanji Watanabe\, an aging bureaucrat with stomach cancer who is impelled to find meaning in his final days. \nPresented in a radically conceived two-part structure and shot with a perceptive\, humanistic clarity of vision\, Ikiru is a multifaceted look at what it means to be alive. \nThe film was remade by Oliver Hermanus in 2022 as Living\, starring Bill Nighy and set in 1950s London. 1952\, Japan\, 4K DCP\, in Japanese with English subtitles\, 143 minutes. SUMMARY:Louisville UnFair
DESCRIPTION:Local Art. Booze & Music. Not Saint James.\nOctober 3\, 4\, and 5\, 2025 \nMagnolia Bar • Old Louisville \n\nThe Louisville UnFair has grown to become the city’s favorite alternative art festival and is an institution in Old Louisville.\nEach year\, the show returns to its home in the backyard of the Magnolia Bar and thousands come together to experience this unique event. Championing self-expression\, the Louisville UnFair provides an inclusive and unconventional platform for local artists to showcase their talents and to connect with the community. \nOriginally created as a rebel art show for locals\, by locals\, the UnFair lifts marginalized artists in our community allowing them to push boundaries and fuel the city’s evolving art scene. While not as large as other traditional “white-tent” arts and crafts fairs\, the eclectic mix of local art\, loud music\, and free expression provide an unmatched level of pure authenticity. \nUnFair happens the first full weekend in October at Mag Bar. If you want more information\, ask somebody rad or keep reading. \nMore than just an art show.\nUnFair is more than an art show; it’s an electrifying celebration of creativity\, community\, diversity and commitment. With our roots deeply planted in championing local talent\, our mission is to provide an unconventional and inclusive platform for local artist to freely showcase and make money from their artwork. We do not charge artists to participate and they keep 100% of the money they make. \nWe also extend our reach by supporting artists facing life’s harshest challenges. Every year\, dollars earned from the sale of UnFair merchandise are used to help local artists who find themselves in crisis. Everything that’s left is used to make sure that UnFair comes back every year. \nAs an officially registered nonprofit in Kentucky\, you can feel good knowing that every dollar you spend at UnFair is going to support local artists. \nFind out more about how we are making a difference for local artists. \n  \n***description from website
