SUMMARY:Kentucky Book Festival: Louisville Edition
DESCRIPTION:Kentucky Book Festival: Louisville Edition\nA program of Kentucky Humanities\, the Kentucky Book Festival: Louisville Edition is the newest chapter in the Kentucky Book Festival tradition! \nA vibrant celebration of reading\, writing\, and creativity\, this exciting event expands the renowned Kentucky Book Festival — traditionally held each fall in Lexington — into Louisville for the very first time. \nJoin us on Saturday\, June 14\, 2025\, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Paristown for a full day of author talks\, book signings\, and community fun. \nWe’re grateful to Carmichael’s Bookstore and Paristown for helping bring the Louisville Edition to life! \n➔ Learn more about the Kentucky Book Festival: Louisville Edition here. \n***more info on Carmichael’s Bookstore website \n\nAbout the Kentucky Book Festival: Louisville Edition\nSaturday\, June 14\, 2025 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Paristown \nFor the first time ever\, we’re brining a part of the this dynamic festival to Louisville this summer! \nWhat Can I Expect at Kentucky Book Festival: Louisville?\n\nMeet Authors and Illustrators: Interact with 30-40 regional and national authors\, editors\, and illustrators\, discover new voices\, and engage in conversations about literature and creativity.\nBuy Books from a Favorite Kentucky Independent Bookstore: Our bookselling partner\, Carmichael’s Bookstore will have a diverse selection of books across a wide range of genres for you to browse and add to your collection.\nEnjoy Inspiring Events and Interesting Discussions: While the kids participate in some fun activities and storytime\, the adults can listen in to talks led by authors and industry professionals.\nFamily-Friendly Fun: There will be activities and programs for book lovers of all ages – perfect for a day out with family and friends. Children under 14 years of age will receive one free book of their choice from participating children’s and young adult authors.\nFree and Open to the Public: Kentucky Book Festival: Louisville Edition is completely free\, with no invitations or tickets required to attend.\n\nHow Is This Event Different from the Kentucky Book Festival in Lexington?\nBuilding upon the celebrated 44 year tradition of the Kentucky Book Festival\, the Louisville Edition will bring a fresh\, new experience to the Commonwealth. It will complement our flagship event in Lexington on Saturday\, November 1\, 2025. Here’s what makes the Louisville Edition unique: \n\nLocation: The Louisville Edition takes place in the vibrant Paristown\, offering a lively urban setting perfect for a summer festival. The Kentucky Book Festival will still happen this fall in Lexington.\nTiming: The Louisville Edition occurs in June. The Kentucky Book Festival will take place on Saturday\, November 1.\nFocus: The Louisville Edition offers a similar experience to the Lexington flagship festival\, but is tailored specifically for the Louisville community\, with programming and author features unique to the Louisville Edition.\nSmaller Scale with Big Impact: While the Kentucky Book Festival in Lexington draws thousands of attendees and features over 150 authors and illustrators\, the Louisville Edition focuses on creating an intimate and engaging environment with a curated selection of authors and illustrators.\n\nFounded as the Kentucky Book Fair by journalist Carl West in 1981\, the Kentucky Book Festival has long been dedicated to connecting writers and readers in meaningful ways. Originally held in Frankfort for more than 30 years\, West’s vision of a statewide celebration of books and authors continues to thrive. As the Kentucky Book Festival expanded and rebranded\, it became a beloved program of Kentucky Humanities. \nThis year\, we’re excited to bring the Kentucky Book Festival experience to Louisville with the Louisville Edition\, a vibrant new chapter in the festival’s legacy. While the Louisville Edition is a unique event\, it is fueled by the same passion for literature that Carl West established so many years ago. \nLearn more about the history of the Kentucky Book Festival.

SUMMARY:Carmichael's Community Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Carmichael’s Community Book Club\nEvent date:   Monday\, June 2\, 2025 – 7:00pm \n2720 Frankfort Avenue\nLouisville\, KY 40206 \nCome join us for the next meeting of the Carmichael’s Community Book Club. The club meets on the last Monday of the month. \n*Please note the date change for this meeting due to Memorial Day. \n\nMay’s pick is There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension by Hanif Abdurraqib \nAbout the Book:\nGrowing up in Columbus\, Ohio\, in the 1990s\, Hanif Abdurraqib witnessed a golden era of basketball\, one in which legends like LeBron James were forged and countless others weren’t. His lifelong love of the game leads Abdurraqib into a lyrical\, historical\, and emotionally rich exploration of what it means to make it\, who we think deserves success\, the tension between excellence and expectation\, and the very notion of role models\, all of which he expertly weaves together with intimate\, personal storytelling. “Here is where I would like to tell you about the form on my father’s jump shot\,” Abdurraqib writes. “The truth\, though\, is that I saw my father shoot a basketball only one time.” \nThere’s Always This Year is a triumph\, brimming with joy\, pain\, solidarity\, comfort\, outrage\, and hope. No matter the subject of his keen focus—whether it’s basketball\, or music\, or performance—Hanif Abdurraqib’s exquisite writing is always poetry\, always profound\, and always a clarion call to radically reimagine how we think about our culture\, our country\, and ourselves. \nGET THE BOOK / ADDITIONAL INFO

SUMMARY:Author Meredith R. Lyons discusses 'A Dagger of Lightning' with Meg Shaffer | Carmichael's
DESCRIPTION:Meredith R. Lyons discusses A Dagger of Lightning with Meg Shaffer \nCarmichael’s is excited to host Meredith R. Lyons for her new book\, A Dagger of Lightning. She will be joined in conversation by Meg Shaffer. \nAbout the Book:\nLet’s get one thing straight: I am not your chosen one. \nForty-five-year-old Imogen has always struggled to fit in\, never finding her passion in life. And while that may include having cold feet in her impending nuptials\, that doesn’t mean she’s ready to ditch planet Earth—and her entire life—completely. \nWhen Imogen is kidnapped by an alien prince in disguise\, there’s nothing she can do to stop him. He’s sidhe—a being with powerful abilities—and he’s grown up used to getting what he wants. The prince is convinced Imogen will fall in love with him\, and that her new powers\, once she’s turned sidhe\, will help his country win a centuries-old feud. \nWith the help of the prince’s much more tolerable brother\, Imogen starts to get her feet back under her\, but even he can’t protect her from those who would use her for her powers. If Imogen can’t find a way to fight for herself\, she’ll become a pawn in a world that has already decided what she’s going to be. \nAbout the Author:\nMeredith grew up in New Orleans\, collecting two degrees from Louisiana State University before running away to Chicago to be an actor. In between plays\, she got her black belt and made martial arts and yoga her full-time day job. She fought in the Chicago Golden Gloves\, ran the Chicago Marathon\, and competed for team USA in the Savate World Championships in Paris. In spite of doing each of these things twice\, she couldn’t stay warm and relocated to Nashville. She owns several swords\, but lives a non-violent life\, saving all swashbuckling for the page\, knitting scarves\, gardening\, visiting coffee shops\, and cuddling with her husband and two panther-sized cats. She’s a member of International Thriller Writers\, Sisters in Crime\, and the Women’s National Book Association. Her first novel Ghost Tamer is an Amazon Editor’s Pick for Best SciFi Fantasy\, an IBPA Benjamin Franklin Gold Winner for Best SciFi Fantasy\, an IPPY Award Winner for Best First Book\, and a Silver Falchion Winner for Best Book of 2023 and Best Supernatural. A Dagger of Lighting releases April 1\, 2025\, both with CamCat Books.
