The book offers a way to practice empathy\, particularly for those who are seldom forced to operate in a culture that is not of them and for them. The stories are the heart of the book; stories about power\, about the difference between comfort and safety\, and about taking up space \nAbout the Author:\nDr. Alcalde is a creative\, anti-supremacist leader with experience in the philanthropic\, academic\, governmental\, nonprofit\, and grassroots sectors. She writes and speaks locally\, nationally\, and internationally about shifting the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors\, culture change\, racial justice\, and leadership of women of color. She was born in Lima\, Peru and lived in Louisville for over 20 years and still considers Louisville one of her homes. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Louisville\, a master’s in public health from Boston University\, and a doctorate in global public health from the University of North Carolina\, Chapel Hill. Every day she eats a breakfast of boiled chicken\, then conveys her articulated body to Tablet Town\, where she sells other figurines Smartbodies: wearable tech that allows full\, physical immersion in a virtual world\, a refuge from real life’s brutal wars\, oppressive governmental monitoring\, and omnipresent eco-terrorist insurgency. If you cut her\, she will not bleed—but she and her fellow figurines can still be cracked or blown apart by gunfire or bombs\, or crumble away from nuclear fallout.
