That moment affirmed that his life was being directed toward a career in music. \nThroughout his journey\, Marcus has received encouragement from renowned percussionist Sheila E.\, as well as fellow saxophonists Nelson Rangell and Najee. He also credits his saxophone mentors Joe Yorio (who toured with Peabo Bryson) and Mel Holder\, a Grammy and Stellar Award–nominated artist and producer\, for helping shape his musical path. \nIn 2023\, Marcus released his breakout CD Brand New Day\, which peaked at #37 on the SmoothJazz.com Top 100 Chart.
