Follow the signs placed around The Egg Lawn to read the entire story. Along the way learn about nature and complete suggested activities on the back of the signs! Different StoryWalk® will be put up four times this year and they will only be out for a limited time. Once open\, families and individuals can drop in anytime from dawn to dusk to read the story at no charge! Signs will be up by noon on the start day of the event and will be taken down the day after the end date. \nStoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to temporary signs\, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail\, you’re directed to the next page in the story. Then after the talk\, we will head outside to see if we can find and tag some of these butterflies as they make their way back to Mexico on their incredible migration. \nCome prepared to be outside for at least 30 minutes. \nYou may also have the option to walk through tall grasses while trying to capture monarch butterflies\, it is best to wear boots and long pants if you want to walk through our meadows. \nMonarch Butterfly Talk and Walk\nAugust 24\, 2024\n9:30 am – 10:30 am\nBeckley Creek Park \nThis talk and walk will take place on August 24th 2024 at 9:30am\, and will meet at The PNC Achievement Center in Beckley Creek Park. The talk will last around 30 minutes\, then we will spend the rest of the hour walking through the meadows surrounding the PNC Achievement Center. All supplies are included but you are welcome to bring a butterfly net if you have one. \nAdditional Information: \nThe Monarch Butterfly annually performs the longest migration of any insect in the world\, from as far north as southern Canada to south-central Mexico\, a distance of more than 3000 miles. The butterflies begin their migration south in August\, passing through Kentucky in late summer and early fall\, and gathering by December at several locations in the mountains south of Mexico City. The number of Monarchs that winter at these sites are estimated in the hundreds of millions\, all having migrated from the north. Many head back north in the spring\, along the way laying eggs on milkweed to birth the next generation. This phenomenon has been going on since well before humans inhabited the Americas. \nBut once Mexico was inhabited\, these butterflies were not ignored\, and there is evidence today of widespread prevalence of Mesoamerican butterfly symbols dating from as early as 100 BC\, and which were seen by the Aztecs as the returning souls of warriors slain in battle. In more recent times\, the monarch in Mexico has taken on a special symbolic meaning and its image is an important part of the annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations in early November. \nBob Jones has been involved in the monarch migrations since the 1980s\, counting and tagging monarchs in California and now here in Kentucky. We are coming together to support our purpose of providing inclusive and compassionate care to ensure a safe and bright future for every child in our diverse community.\nThis year’s event takes place on Friday\, August 9 from 5 pm – 10 pm and Saturday\, August 10 from Noon to Midnight. \nCome out to this free\, family-friendly event and support St. Joe’s by playing carnival & casino games\, enjoying the delicious food and drinks\, and buying chances on raffle items. \nPicnic is held on our campus at 2823 Frankfort Avenue\, with free parking available onsite. Overflow parking with free shuttle service is also available on Saturday at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Parking Lot off Grinstead Drive. \nFriday night includes a live performance by Back 2 Mac. In honor of our 175th anniversary\, we will have live music all day on Saturday with multiple bands. Check our website and social media for bands and the schedule. DESCRIPTION:From website:\n—- \n The Downtown Drive-In returns on Friday\, May 31st for its 2024 season!\n\n\n\n\nThe Downtown Drive-In is an outdoor movie night series\, taking place at Brown-Forman Amphitheater on select Friday nights through October. \nMovies will begin at sundown\, with the amphitheater open an hour before to allow guests to grab their spot in the theater. The event will include snacks and beer for purchase from local brewer Ten20 Craft Brewery. Movie-goers are also welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the viewing. \nIn collaboration with Waterfront Development Corporation\, the film series is hosted at Waterfront Park’s Brown-Forman Amphitheater\, 1301 River Road. The event is free to the public with free parking available at Waterfront Park’s Tan and Turquoise lots. \nNo tickets are required for the outdoor film screenings\, but guests are encouraged to arrive early to save their spot.
