Beginning in 2012\, the raspy-voiced funnyman known to his adoring fans as “the Caribbean King of Comedy” took social media by storm with his brand of humor he calls “reality comedy:” producing and starring in sketches online featuring impersonations of characters that poke fun at various stereotypes associated with Caribbean\, Latin and African-American cultures. As a stand-up comedian\, Majah improvises his routines: delivering unscripted punchlines around everyday experiences that connect Afro-Caribbean\npeople. \nMajah was always destined to entertain crowds and bring joy to diverse audiences. Born Nigel Joseph in the Caribbean\, Majah grew up the oldest of three children with his mother in Brooklyn\, N.Y. The diligent entertainer synonymous with mimicking Caribbean accents honed his chops winning his family’s holiday talent shows either telling jokes or playing seven instruments: mainly the alto saxophone\, clarinet and trombone. Any other time\, Majah was taking his inspiration for making people laugh by studying Redd Foxx on “Sanford & Son\,” Jamaican comic Oliver Samuels\, Richard Pryor\, Martin Lawrence\, Jerry Seinfeld and Eddie Murphy. \nFor awhile\, music seemed to be the career path Majah was destined to pursue. In junior high school\, Majah started DJing. One of his DJ buddies gave him the name “Majah” because he could see that the comedian was destined for worldwide success. Majah began selling cassette tapes sequenced with Caribbean sounds and Hip-Hop to his peers in the hallways. Adding vocals and production to his growing list of talents\, Majah produced singles for a host of Jamaican and Caribbean artists like Gyptian and Torres Riley. Almost instantly\, the reality of becoming a father at 19 years old forced Majah to put his dreams to mesmerize audiences on hold. \nMajah took a job as an electrician with Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). Although he was making great money going in and out of tunnels for eight years\, Majah knew his purpose was much greater than a 9-to-5 routine. He’d gotten laid off and started posting his own memes and later 15-second videos to Instagram. One particular post comparing the best trucks in Caribbean culture during Labor Day Weekend became a viral sensation. Majah’s following started growing exponentially: prompting the comic to pursue his passion for making people laugh full-time. He quit his day job and never looked back. \nFrequently coming up with new characters\, Majah produces about six or seven videos per day. He blazed both domestic and international stages with his prideful brand of wit: becoming a familiar face spanning Trinidad\, Tobago\, Jamaica\, Guyana\, Barbados\, Japan\, Europe\, Canada\, South America and the Bahamas. DESCRIPTION:Ranky Tanky have achieved many firsts for South Carolina’s West African-rooted Gullah community since their formation\, earning yet another milestone at the 2019 GRAMMY Awards by taking home the Best Regional Roots Album prize for their sophomore release\, Good Time. The album\, which also hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart\, combines songs carried down through generations in the Sea Islands of the Southeastern United States with the band’s own original compositions in the Gullah tradition. In Ranky Tanky’s hands\, this style of music has been described as “soulful honey to the ears” (NPR) while being covered by the New York Times\, NPR’s Fresh Air and The TODAY Show\, who had the band on for a performance. \nRanky Tanky (a Gullah phrase for “get funky”) are five lifelong friends from Charleston\, South Carolina who have established themselves as passionate global ambassadors for their local culture and community\, helping to faithfully preserve the traditions originated by African Americans in the coastal South during slavery that are kept alive through the present day. The band have been featured on NPR’s Fresh Air\, The Today Show\, PBS Newshour and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert #playathome. DESCRIPTION:Throo the Zoo 2024: \nDescription\nDash on over to the Zoo to take part in Louisville’s only road race that doesn’t just go around the Zoo but actually “Throo” the Zoo. Enjoy an early morning adventure where you watch as the Zoo wakes up! Join us on November 9th at 8:00 am for one amazing Louisville Zoo experience. \nPacket pick-up will take place on Friday\, November 8th from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm in the bus lot at the Louisville Zoo (1100 Trevilian Way\, 40213). If you are unable to pick up your packet or have a friend/family member pick it up for you on Friday\, we will have a limited packet pick-up on race morning from 6:45 am until 7:45 am. Please plan to arrive early enough to get your bib and get to the start line on time. \nThroo the Zoo Registration\nYour registration fee includes a one-of-a-kind race experience\, a commemorative t-shirt\, unique finishers medal\, post-race refreshments\, entry to win door prizes\, and a FREE ticket to come back and visit the Zoo at a more leisurely pace! Register today before the price goes up! \nThrough August 17: $30\nAugust 18 – October 19: $35\nOctober 20 – November 8 $40\nNovember 9 – Race Start: $50 \n* Children in strollers are free\, but do not receive a t-shirt\, race bib\, commemorative finishers medal\, or free ticket for a return visit. \nThroo the Zoo Race Swag\nAll in-person recipients will receive a cotton T-shirt\, and in the registration process you will have the opportunity to upgrade to a tech T-shirt. Virtual race participants will have the opportunity to purchase either option in the registration process. \nAll finishers\, virtual\, and in-person\, will receive a themed finisher medal to celebrate their racing success!
