SUMMARY:Pandora Productions presents "Avenue Q"
DESCRIPTION:Avenue Q\nAges 18+ \nA puppet-filled comedy follows a group of twenty-somethings seeking their purpose in big-city life. Presented by Pandora Productions. \n\nSponsored by Best Blind and Shade \nMusic and Lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx\, Book by Jeff Whitty\, Based on an Original Concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx \nWinner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical\, Best Score and Best Book\, Avenue Q is part flesh\, part felt and packed with heart. \nSummary:\nThe laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton\, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that\, although the residents seem nice\, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Amanda strives to give meaning and direction to her life and the lives of her children\, though her methods are ineffective and irritating. Tom is driven nearly to distraction by his mother’s nagging and seeks escape in alcohol and the world of the movies. Laura also lives in her illusions. \nShe is crippled\, and this defect\, intensified by her mother’s anxiety to see her married\, has driven her more and more into herself. The crux of the action comes when Tom invites a young man of his acquaintance to take dinner with the family. Jim\, the caller\, is a nice ordinary fellow who is at once pounced upon by Amanda as a possible husband for Laura. In spite of her crude and obvious efforts to entrap the young man\, he and Laura manage to get along very nicely\, and momentarily Laura is lifted out of herself into a new world. But this crashes when\, toward the end\, Jim explains that he is already engaged. \nThe world of illusion that Amanda and Laura have striven to create in order to make life bearable collapses about them. Tom\, too\, at the end of his tether\, at last leaves home. \n  \n***Description from website

SUMMARY:"Lancelot of the Lake" (Lancelot du Lac) @ Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:UofL French Film Festival/Sunday Showcase \nLancelot of the Lake (Lancelot du Lac)\nDirected by Robert Bresson \nSunday\, April 13\, 12:30 pm\, CINEMA+ \nFree\, first come\, first served \n“Irresistible. The highest level of Bresson’s achievement.”–Dave Kehr \nWinner of the International Critics’ Prize at Cannes in 1974\, Bresson’s masterpiece has lost none of its power and continues to cast a mystical spell. In this compelling and hypnotic film about the Arthurian legend\, the Knights of the Round Table\, their numbers depleted by their bloody and fruitless quest for the Holy Grail\, return to King Arthur’s court. Once there\, Lancelot’s passionate relationship with Queen Guinevere causes the Knights to fall out amongst themselves\, eventually leading to their downfall. Lancelot du Lac is a unique and compelling vision of the Knights of the Round Table from one of the cinema’s foremost artists. 1974\, France\, 4K DCP\, in French with English subtitles\, 85 minutes. Recommended for 16+ \nCINEMA+ with a post-screening discussion with Dr. Andrew Rabin\, medievalist and professor and vice chair of the department of English at the University of Louisville. \n  \n***Description from website
