SUMMARY:Gabriela Alcalde discusses "What Your Comfort Costs Us" | w/ Honorable Attica Scott
DESCRIPTION:Discussing Gabriela Alcalde’s new book\, What Your Comfort Costs Us: How Women of Color Reimagine Leadership To Transform Workplace Culture. \nAbout the book:\nWhat Your Comfort Costs Us weaves the author’s leadership journey with the stories of women of color leaders in nonprofit\, philanthropy\, and higher education. It offers a powerful lens on leadership and practical strategies for creating workplaces where everyone can thrive. The book offers a way to practice empathy\, particularly for those who are seldom forced to operate in a culture that is not of them and for them. The stories are the heart of the book; stories about power\, about the difference between comfort and safety\, and about taking up space \nAbout the Author:\nDr. Alcalde is a creative\, anti-supremacist leader with experience in the philanthropic\, academic\, governmental\, nonprofit\, and grassroots sectors. She writes and speaks locally\, nationally\, and internationally about shifting the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors\, culture change\, racial justice\, and leadership of women of color. She was born in Lima\, Peru and lived in Louisville for over 20 years and still considers Louisville one of her homes. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Louisville\, a master’s in public health from Boston University\, and a doctorate in global public health from the University of North Carolina\, Chapel Hill. What Your Comfort Costs Us is her first book. \nRead more about Gabriela on her website: https://www.mgalcalde.com/ \nAttica Scott:\nHonorable Attica Scott is the Director of Special Projects at Forward Justice Action Network\, a 501c4 organization that serves as a strategic partner for coalitions\, networks\, and nonprofits at the forefront of movements organizing for a more equitable\, free\, and just US South. \nAttica served for three terms as a State Representative where she sponsored legislation related to menstrual equity\, Black maternal health\, universal basic income\, rent stabilization\, police accountability\, wrongful conviction compensation\, student journalist freedom of the press\, racism as a public health crisis\, and expanding the teaching of Black and Indigenous history in public schools. In the state legislature\, Attica was an active member of the House Standing Committees on Education\, Judiciary\, and Natural Resources. \nShe is a certified anti-racism trainer through Crossroads Ministry and the Commission on Religion in Appalachia. SUMMARY:Pandora Productions presents "Avenue Q"
DESCRIPTION:Avenue Q\nAges 18+ \nA puppet-filled comedy follows a group of twenty-somethings seeking their purpose in big-city life. Presented by Pandora Productions. \n\nSponsored by Best Blind and Shade \nMusic and Lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx\, Book by Jeff Whitty\, Based on an Original Concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx \nWinner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical\, Best Score and Best Book\, Avenue Q is part flesh\, part felt and packed with heart. \nSummary:\nThe laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton\, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that\, although the residents seem nice\, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together\, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs\, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life. \nFilled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score\, not to mention puppets\, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues\, it is similar to a beloved children’s show; a place where puppets are friends\, Monsters are good\, and life lessons are learned. \nFeaturing: Shelby Brown\, Louisa Frey\, Regina Frost\, David Galloway\, Kate Holland Ballowe\, Zac Campbell-Hoogendyk\, Hannah Lechleiter\, Elliot Meadows\, Kristina Nguyen\, Derrick Palmer\, Jeff Pecans\, Tony Smith\, Morgan Spaulding\, Sean Turley \nDirected by Gil Reyes \nMusic Direction by Hannegan Roseberry \n  \n***Description from eventbrite
