Louisville Youth Choir and Louisville Chorus join forces to open milestone seasons with “Lift Every Voice” concert on October 18, uniting 100 multigenerational singers, spanning ages 8 to 78

Concert officially opens the 87th season for Louisville Chorus, 60th season for Louisville Youth Choir!

LOUISVILLE, KY (August 2026) – The Louisville Youth Choir and the Louisville Chorus will share the stage for the “Lift Every Voice” concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 18 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive, Louisville, Ky. The concert unites more than 100 singers, ranging from ages 8-78, who will perform side-by-side in an uplifting, multi-generational concert. The singers will be accompanied by instrumentalists from the Louisville Youth Orchestra.

Tickets are $30 for general admission, $20 for seniors, and $10 for students, available through LouisvilleChorus.org and LouYouthChoir.org.

The concert opens two milestone seasons at once: the Louisville Youth Choir (LYC) celebrates its 60th season this year, and the Louisville Chorus (LC) celebrates its 87th season. This is a fully shared production of the two ensembles rather than a guest appearance by either.

This collaboration gives our young singers the extraordinary opportunity to share the stage with experienced generations of singers—to learn from them, be inspired by them, and experience firsthand how choral music connects us across ages. What a meaningful way to celebrate this milestone season and the lifelong joy of singing together,” said Terri Foster, LYC Artistic/Exec. Director.

At the center of the program is the world premiere of “In Every Tongue” by Zachariah Preston, LC’s Assistant Artistic Director. The piece, commissioned for this concert, weaves together more than 30 languages in a work about music’s ability to cross language, culture, and generations. The program also includes Roland Carter’s arrangement of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” “We Are the World,” and “Po Atarau,” the Māori farewell song known to many as “Now Is the Hour.”

“When a fifth grader and a singer in their sixties stand shoulder to shoulder on the same piece of music, the audience hears something neither group can produce alone,” said Dr. David Borman, LC Artistic Director. “That is the whole idea of this concert, and it is the perfect way to open a season built around every voice and every tongue.”

LYC, a 501(c)(3) performing arts organization located at 3105 Lexington Rd. (Bldg. 17), was established in 1967 to create a passion for singing among young people.
